You’ve probably heard about the plastic that’s floating around in our oceans? To be exact, about almost 10 million metric tonnes of plastic!

If this continues, and no one does something about all these plastics, we’ll have more plastic floating around in the oceans than fish. Surprising, yeah I know.

Recycling doesn’t seem to solve everything, but it does help a lot. Especially if it’s fished out of the sea to be reused – let’s not forget to mention, especially if you’re going to reuse it to make non-plastic material like clothing. Gotta say, this is a smart idea.

A fashion retailer based in Cape Town, South Africa, GiLo Lifestyle, also an online store established in 2015 is helping the world to achieve this by using recycled plastic recovered from the ocean to make some of their clothing.

“Our current garments include men’s board shorts and lifestyle shorts made from recycled plastic recovered from the ocean. They are 92% recycled plastic (PET), which stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate, the clear plastic used for water bottles and 8%spandex to provide 4-way stretch. PET is globally recognised as non-toxic and 100% recyclable. The shorts are extremely lightweight, water repellent, quick dry and seamless so no chaffing.”

The owners of GiLo Lifestyle have a great love for the planet. They have found the significant and disturbing accumulation of plastic pollution around the globe to be alarming and a great cause for concern.

Check out one their products that’s made of recycled plastic:

Printed Board shorts Shorts For Men – A bright and bold print featuring various shades of blue with jungle leaves and toucans. A classic mid-length board short cut with no side seams to prevent chafing and a contrast waistband.

What is the process plastic needs to go through to get turned into shorts and how many bottles does it take to make them?

Apart from the fact that its made from recycled plastic from the sea, which is already a deal-breaker, I like the design of their clothes and that its really comfortable. What’s also very impressive is that they have a guide on their website about the fit if you’re not sure about the size.

What many people are not aware of is that clothing is one of the most polluting industries in the world, and that’s why consumers and brands are turning to sustainable clothing.

Did you know that it takes 3,500 plus liters of water to make one pair of jeans? That’s only one pair of jeans. What about everything else in your cupboards? According to the UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme), the fashion industry uses about 100 billion cubic meters of water per year.

More Shocking Facts About The Fashion Industry:

Of all the wastewater around the world, more than 20% of it comes from fabric treatment which it’s the process of making the fabric softer, water resistant, or dyeing it after it loses its color. Also, according to research, the industry is responsible for more than 10% of the world’s carbon emissions. For those who don’t know, carbon emissions are what effects the planet by releasing emissions into our atmosphere, which contributes to global warming. The worse part of it all is that millions of plastic fibers are dumped into our oceans, luckily there’s a solution for all this through sustainable clothing, keep reading this article to find out how they do it.

Sustainable Fashion Industry

Why People Are Switching Over To Sustainable Clothing

For those who don’t know, yet, sustainable fashion is a term used for eco-friendly clothing, meaning it is clothing that is manufactured in a way that protects the environment. The goal of sustainable fashion is to grow the eco-systems and communities by protecting our planet and animals.

Sustainable fashion brands such as GiLo Lifestyle, which also sells online, manage to do their part by sourcing used plastic bottles from our oceans and turning them into clothing. Their most common piece of clothing made from plastic bottles is their board shorts which are light and flexible.

What Are The Process Of Turning Plastic Into Shorts?

Plastic bottles are cleaned thoroughly and stripped from any labels and caps

The clean plastic is then processed into flakes and cleaned again

The flakes are then turned into even smaller particles of plastic

These smaller particles are then stretched out and transformed into yarn and woven into fabric.

Does The World Really Need Eco-Friendly Clothing?

Without a doubt it does, every fashion stylist or fashion brand can agree with this. Let’s look at some reasons why:

Less Waste Is Created Through Sustainable Fashion.

Dumping grounds are being filled with waste clothes created by fast fashion, the reason for this is that it is made from poor quality that does not last, whereas sustainable clothing brands focus on quality rather than quantity. We all know sustainable clothing has a reputation for being a bit pricey, and it is true in most cases, however, it is much higher in quality.

Reduces Carbon Emissions.

Most clothing materials are made from petroleum-based materials, and eco-friendly clothing on the other hand uses natural recycled materials. These recycled materials require very little chemical treatment and use less energy and water.

Saving Water

As I mentioned before, it takes more than 3,500 liters of water to make one pair of jeans, and about 2,000 liters to make one cotton shirt. Whereas sustainable clothing brands have water on budget policies within their industry and make use of organic materials that use little to no water usage during production.

Saving Our Animals

We all love our animals, and we wouldn’t want them to go extinct. Clothing made from leather, feathers, and wool affects our animal population on earth. In comparison, sustainable clothing brands are against animal cruelty, thus, providing us with leather and fur alternatives such as Sorona Dupont, and wool that are sourced ethically to protect our animals.

Anti-Animal Cruelty

Disadvantage Of Sustainable Clothing

While the industry is still growing, it is not yet a massive mainstream industry. This has an enormous impact on consumers and their needs, meaning it does not cater to every fashion enthusiast out there with different clothing preferences. Many consumers feel that they are limited to sustainable clothing as most of them are online and don’t meet the required fashion style in some cases while being pricey.

The main difference between the two industries is the amount of waste that they produce during and after production.

The History Of Sustainable Clothing

Eco-friendly clothing was first introduced in the 1960s by the hippies targeting consumers in their late 20s and 30s, also known as the contemporary culture. This was when the world started to see the movement in sustainable clothing. The movement was then followed by the punk and goth culture of the 70s. It wasn’t until the 90s that eco-friendly clothing was made accessible to everyone due to the rise of global warming by the fast fashion industry that was introduced to the world.

Animals Used For Clothing

Each year, billions of animals suffer for fashion. Their skin is torn from them to make leather, feathers are ripped from birds’ sensitive skin, and many other animals are killed for their fur. As a result of animal cruelty in fashion, the industry is contributing to climate change, pollution, and water contamination. The sustainable clothing industry’s aim is to protect our animals and the environment by producing alternatives to leather, feather, and fur materials.

Many big fashion brands are starting to move away from animal fur materials as they began to see that vegan material that is available today is much lighter and way more superior and durable than animal-derived material.

What Makes Fast Fashion Bad Apart From Pollution

Apart from the cost to the environment, humans also have to suffer, in some cases. In some fast fashion industries, workers are exposed to dangerous environments for low wages, and without basic rights. Animals are also impacted by the toxic waste released into the water which is consumed by our marine life. While there are many disadvantages of fast fashion, and people knocking it, some retailers in the fast fashion industry are going green by introducing recycling schemes.

Carbon Emissions

Conclusion

Sustainable fashion does not only provide us with eco-friendly materials but also ensures the fair treatment of laborers and animals, as well as contributes to our environment by reducing carbon emissions.

Everyone needs puffer jackets this winter. Whether you prefer a puffer or down coat, there are specific styles for every budget.

Nothing beats a good puffer jacket for keeping you warm and toasty in the coldest climates. A puffer will keep you warm even if it’s very windy outside. Puffer jackets are an all-season favorite because it’s comfortable and stylish at the same time.

A well-fitting puffer jacket (in many stylists’ opinion), should be tight around the waist and form-fitting around the arms and shoulders. It shouldn’t feel bulky, especially on the upper body. The hood can be trimmed with fur or faux fur to match the rest of the jacket. If you have a smaller frame, look for jackets that don’t have too many extra buttons or add-ons, like extra pockets or muffs.

Winter is officially here, which means it’s time to start thinking about what kind of clothing you need to keep yourself warm. When it comes to jackets, there are a lot of different options to choose from. But if you’re looking for something that will keep you warm, you can’t go wrong with a puffer jacket.

If you want to stay warm this season, we recommend you invest in a good puffer jacket. A puffer jacket is a garment that helps trap warm air inside and provides an extra layer of insulation. To help you decide which one is best for you, we have rounded up three of the best puffer jackets.

What are the different types of puffer jackets?

Puffer jackets are all the rage right now and for good reason. They’re warm, they’re stylish, and they can even double as a one-of-a-kind fashion statement. But what do they do? The simple answer is that puffers keep you warm. However, there are different types of puffer jackets. Some are better suited for fall/winter wear, while others are best for spring/summer. It’s that time of year again. The air is crisp and the temperatures are dropping. There’s nothing quite like puffer jackets to keep you warm and cozy when the temperature drops, but not all puffers are created equal.

There are many types of Puffer Jackets, but the main 3 puffer jackets are:

Classic Puffer Jacket: This classic puffer jacket with horizontal quilting throughout has the cire finish to give it a smooth matte look and has a soft padding for extra warmth whilst still being lightweight and incredibly warm. This garment comes with a stand-up funnel collar to keep the chill away from around the neck. It features a contrasting grey zip and grey matching chunky branded nylon zippers for masculine appeal. The slim-fit garment fits close to the body to maximize mobility and maintain core warmth. Wear over any t-shirt or jersey and jeans to finish.

Long Puffer Jacket: Long Puffer Jacket With Detachable Fur Hood. A must-have jacket whilst still maintaining practicality and style; it’s slightly padded, with horizontal quilting all over, and has a detachable fur hood to keep you extra warm, comfortable, and protected from the rain. It also features a central zip and GiLo popper buttons for added detail. Wear over a knitted jumper dress and long boots to complete your Autumn/Winter look!

Sleeveless Puffer Jacket: Combat the chill this year with our Dark Charcoal Black Sleeveless Puffer Jacket. This lightweight yet super functional jacket has the classic puffer style silhouette, with horizontal quilted padding to ensure you stay insulated and warm. They provide enough insulation to keep you warm, and due to their breathable fill and sleeveless fit, they also prevent you from overheating while you’re in motion. Elasticated side panels have been added to give the jacket more comfort, class, and a more flattering fit. The slim-fit garment fits close to the body to maximize mobility and maintain core warmth. This transitional puffer can be worn comfortably over a long sleeve top or knitted jumper!

Which puffer jacket is best for cold weather?

When the mercury drops, it’s time to put away the tank tops and flip-flops. It’s time to pull out your puffer jacket and tie on a scarf. But which one is right for you? From classic to contemporary styles, there’s a puffer jacket to fit every fashion taste. Puff, puff, pass? Not quite. If you’re looking to stay warm this winter, check out our top 3 picks for men’s puffer jackets to keep you cozy: Classic Puffer Jacket, Sleeveless Puffer Jacket, and Long Puffer Jacket.

What are the features of a good puffer jacket?

As temperatures drop, so does your fashion sense. Puffer jackets are one of the most popular items to wear during the cold months, but there’s a lot more to these jackets than meets the eye. Puffer jackets are crafted from a durable material that traps air to help keep you warm, without adding bulk or extra weight. This jacket is perfect for those who need protection from the elements, but don’t want a heavy coat weighing them down. In addition, puffer jackets come in all sorts of styles, including vests, hoodies, and cardigans

What are the benefits of wearing a puffer jacket?

A puffer jacket gives you an excuse to not stay inside and watch Netflix all day, and it’s no wonder why. In recent years, the fashion jacket has become a staple in many shoppers’ closets thanks to its ability to keep you warm even when the mercury drops.

Why are puffer jackets more expensive than regular jackets?

If you’re looking to stay warm this winter, you might be surprised by the cost of some puffer jackets. While they can certainly come in handy, they also tend to be more expensive than a regular jacket in some cases. This is likely due to the fact that they are designed to keep you warmer when you’re active, meaning that you’ll use more of them. In addition, they have special features, like reflective material and extra insulation, which results in a higher price tag, sometimes.

Conclusion

It’s not uncommon to see people wearing puffer jackets in the fall and winter. The hit TV show “Stranger Things,” popularized this trend, but it makes sense that puffer jackets were created for use in aviation. These jackets trap warm air inside of them and puff out when someone walks by, creating a wind barrier for those working or playing outside.
